Foods To Eat When You Have Diarrhea

When you have diarrhea, your body loses fluids rapidly. This can lead to dehydration, leaving you feeling weak and tired. But what foods are best to eat when you have diarrhea? Here are some foods that should help.

The first thing you want to avoid while having diarrhea is milk products, since these contain calcium and protein. Instead, you should eat fiber-rich food, like fruit and vegetables. Try eating bananas, cucumber, peppers, or tomatoes. These foods are high in water content and will keep you hydrated.

If your stool does not pass easily, try drinking plenty of ginger tea before bedtime. Ginger has been shown to reduce stomach cramping and may prevent constipation.

To treat diarrhea, take antidiarrheal medication. Your doctor may prescribe Imodium AD (loperamide), Pepto Bismol, Kaopectate, Lomotil, or any other anti-diarrheal medication. If you are still experiencing symptoms and no relief is coming from these medications, then you might need to visit a gastroenterologist or nurse practitioner about other options.
